Dear Friend,

Gandhigram Trust has been supporting the Sustainable Development Goals with Government agencies in achieving access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and paying special attention to the needs of girl children and children in those vulnerable situations ( target 6.2) as per the indications a.) To support the population using a safety management sanitation and services and b). Hand washing facility with soap and water.

As an experimental measure we have renovated hand wash facilities in 4 schools and arranged to give hand washing soaps and toilet cleaning materials in 82 schools in addition renovating retrofitting of toilets and urinals in the above 4 schools. We have  executed the facilities to improve drinking water facilities and handed over 35 water filters to the schools. We have taken special care and attention to the needs of the girl students and arranged to supply 5 incinerators to the 5 schools in the area.

We are grateful to Shri.Muthukumarasamy and Redington Foundation for the initial financial support of Rs.7 lakhs for the above projects and guidance given in implementation. We have initiated a project in the Manalur hill area which we could not execute because of the heavy rain and we will be executing them in 2nd or 3rd week. The success of this project is reflected from the many calls we are receiving from the other schools in the area, to extend the same facility to them.

We are thankful to Shri.Deva Asirwatham, Shri.Andavar, other government educational department officials and Headmasters and teachers of the schools who have supported and extended their cooperation.

We also record our appreciation to project team members of rural development who have effectively followed, supervised and handed over the materials to the schools in addition to building their capacities in maintaining sanitary facilities in the schools and also in the communities.

We are keeping our fingers crossed, since we have received many requests from the other schools and request your guidance for probable CSR links for planning for the whole district.

Thanking you
Yours sincerely
