We have a potential problem on Position Night. Darrell plays Mike F. Mike has golfed off and Darrell and Mike could wind up tied.
Mike of course won't be there for any playoff so what do we do?

It would be a forfeit if unable to play in the playoff.

If that occurs the fair thing to do imo is to go by scores based on hole handicaps with handicaps until one of them breaks the tie.  Since Mike isn’t available to play.

I’m sure you’ll figure out a fair way to handle it.

Are we not using the league rules just for this coming week or are we eliminating sudden death extra holes for all ties moving forward?

During the Playoffs any ties will be determined in Sudden Death play, beginning on hole number 1 of the 9 being played that night, using handicaps.

Darrell the sudden death exits, but mike fleming golfed off and won't be there to play on weds, that's why Gene brought it up earlier, just in case.

Okay, I tried to remain silent on this but failed! Gene clearly stated that Mike golfed off & asked about a possible playoff scenario between them if they tied. Darryl questioned why weren’t we following existing rules, Bird commented it as a forfeit for Mike.

My opinion, if Position night is the Playoffs, Mike would forfeit, in the event of a tie.
However, if Position night is a play in to the playoffs, Mike doesn’t forfeit, Playoff rule doesn’t apply.

I thought we have in the past, advanced both players when a tie occurred, but I could easily be wrong. Still my opinion, but if a tie would occur, I would rather both advance to the playoffs over an Alternate. The Alternate lost their chance in their Position match.

Chew on this, BONES😋

In all fairness I can see the point with you’all on the handicap but I side with Birds and the Bylaws. It’s unfortunate but if not able to compete for a tie breaker then that kinda sums it up. Could be a good winter meet discussion with resolution hopefully.

After listening to everyone’s opinions and jokes; this is my opinion on the position night matches. Ive been trying to think back over the last 15 years and don’t believe that I’ve ever seen this scenario come up. That being said, it is my opinion that we should be abiding by the current rules as written. Now I like Mike as much as anyone but unfortunately in the case of a tie he would not be present to participate in the sudden death playoff and would thus be automatically disqualified.

Since this pertains to the Darrell and Mike match.  I am good with Mike making playoff as co divisional champion in case of a tie.    That gives Mike a chance.  I will not invoke the sudden death playoff rule.  After all we are all in the league for the friendship and camaraderie.

We have had ties before and the players involved did agree to be co-division winners.
I think we should flip a coin if it's heads Mike is removed from the league if it's tails Darrell should be named best former member. Just kidding of course I think having them as co winners would be acceptable, I know we have done this.

I am confused so correctly if I’m wrong. If the rules state that “in case of a tie, then sudden death occurs”, then how can we have co-winners at times and then at other times have sudden death? We need to make a decision on this rule and then be consistent. It doesn’t seem fair that we apply the rule sometimes but not all the time.

Maybe I’m just confused by the interpretation of the rule?

in the past we've left it up to the 2 guys. This is not the case for the playoffs of course.

OK, it’s time for me to weigh in.
First of all, it may be a moot point if Daryl shoots his “normal“ 36. All he needs is 1/2 point.  Second, if we don’t have a past precedent then I think we have to go with the rule as it is written. When rules are written, I don’t believe you can think of all possibilities. I think that’s what happened in this case.
Lastly, regardless of how this turns out, it’ll be a point of discussion at the winter meeting. Believe me, I’m OK with it.

Good afternoon gentlemen of the Golf League. I’d like to throw a distraction out there other than the topic at hand and let everybody know that I have extra tickets for the hundred dollar Wolves scholarship ticket. If anybody is interested. It’s an $80,000 prize and having an opportunity with the ticket that goes off August 5. You can text me, put it in an email, call me doesn’t matter how you let me know but you gotta let me know soon,  going fast.
