My desktop has a cheap pair of USB logitech external speakers. I've just downloaded Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, and the speakers no longer work. My sound comes from an Intel chipset on the motherboard, and I am getting sound through audio jack to my monitor speakers, but even with the Ubuntu sound and the monitor sound control at maximum, I can barely hear it. I'm older and getting a bit deaf.
I have tested the sound and I'm not getting line out sound, although the monitor does have a separate attachment through the sound jack. My sound is coming through through the HDMI/Display Port 2--GF119 HDMI Audio Controller.
I also connected Logitech speakers to my laptop. Now I hear the external speakers but the internal speakers won't shut off. If I shut them down, the external speakers shut down too. Anyone know a solution?
The speakers should be put into the rear of the computer in the outlet that is marked for speakers. As it is an audio outlet made for those speakers. Once you have done that restart the computer. If that does not help with the speakers feel free to let me know. Could you include your model number and current operating system? Here is a link if your not sure.
Hello nmg,
I just want to clarify a couple things with you to narrow down what could be causing the issue.
1. Have you tried plugging the speakers into a wall outlet by themselves for power? If this is an option.
2. Have you tried them on another computer? Maybe a friends if possible.
3. Do you get the same buzzing from the built in speakers?
4. an you try another set of speakers with this notebook, do you get the same buzzing sound?
Different audio files? (ie. CD, MP3, or YouTube).
Thank you.
When i first opened the box, I was expecting a sound system that would take me hours to figure out. I was wrong. It took me merely 20 Minutes to set up all five speakers, and the bass. Which came to my delight.
The colours of the leads that the speakers have, make it very easy to set up. After connecting them to the bass, all you have to do is put the green, black, yellow, and pink leads that come from your bass into your motherboard, or your sound card. Then are ready to get blown away!
I found that after I set up the sound system, the sound quality coming out of the speakers were truly amazing, and had a crystal clear sound. Unlike other my old speakers that had a slight crackling behind them.
Also I find that the little desktop sound unit that connects to the bass, and allows you to control your sound system, proved to be very useful. Unlike other sound systems out there, you can control the volume of the bass, the master volume, and the ability to switch off your sound system. It also came with the cleaver matrix system button. Although I never use this when listening to my own music, it is useful when you are on a radio station online, or on other sites that would normally play through two speakers and not five. It basically means you will be always able to use all five speakers.
I also have an Xbox 360. To my surprise the Logitech X-540 came with an adaptor which meant that I could connect my sound system to my Xbox 360. The only problem with this is that you have to constantly switch the wires between them. this means that if you want to play on the console you have to plug out the wires from the back of your PC and put them in the adaptor, and vis-versa. At the moment, I have the PC adjusted with the Logitech X-540 sound system, and have my old sound system with the Xbox 360. Meaning I have a total of seven speakers!
Overall, I think that these speakers are a bargain for the price there at. I fully recommend this product to anyone who wants a reasonably cheap sound system for an amazing performance.
Trust me, after you put these speakers on full blast, the house will be shaking, and you will be able to hear the music coming out of your house, from outside!

For the last eight years, my speakers of choice have been the same compact Logitech Z213 2.1 speaker system that currently retails at $50/55. That must mean I don't care that much about sound, right? Wrong. Like many people in either publishing or creative work, I listen to audio for the majority of every day, be it streaming music to help me focus, podcasts or radio, or watching movies and TV in the evenings.
I've been obsessed with electronic music in particular since I was an impressionable teenager, where repeat viewings of VHS recordings of The Prodigy's 'No Good (Start The Dance)' or The Chemical Brothers' 'Life Is Sweet' off the telly in the '90s set me up for a life of pursuing everything electronica for decades since. And it's particularly through that (not to make light of my love for other genres, from psychedelic grunge rock to spiky girlboss pop) where I've developed strong opinions when it comes to speakers and headphones.

This is arguably one of the of Logitech's best sound systems. Very powerful. Figured if I'm going this route I might as well do this right. Since the audio out port on my motherboard is dead I was thinking of getting a sound card so I can take full advantage of sound quality and clarity.
