demo test

I tested all the demos in this page: http://www.grammaticalframework.org/demos/index.html and some of them did not work. Here are my system spec:
Ubuntu 10.04
Firefox 10
java version "1.6.0_20"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.9.10) (6b20-1.9.10-0ubuntu1~10.04.2)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 19.0-b09, mixed mode)

For completeness, I report the results of all tests:

Tourist Phrasebook - OK

Mathbar - OK

GF online editor for simple multilingual grammars (prototype) - not tested

Online syllogism solver - OK

Translation Quiz - OK

Minibar online - OK

Minibar offline - Doesn't work - the select boxes are empty

Fridge poetry - OK

Word-completing translator - Doesn't work - no words are completed, and clicking "Translate" does nothing. Not even a Javascript error

Tramdemo on YouTube - not tested

Multilingual Wik - can read, but when trying to add a restaurant, clicking the "Save the Page" button leads to a server error:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, hall...@chalmers.se and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Numeral translator for the iPhone - not tested

Numeral translator - OK (although it took me some time to guess that I should write "twenty-three" instead of "twenty three")

Letter editor - OK

Pizza - not tested.

WebALT Math Editor (film) - OK.

WebALT Math translator - Error!

Unable to select database

We were able to connect to the MySQL database server (which means your username and password are okay) but not able to select the database.

The MySQL error was: Unknown database 'jem'.

Currently, the database is jem. The username is jem and the database server is localhost.

• Are you sure you have the correct database name?
• Are you sure the database exists?
• Are you sure the username has permission to access the database?

For more help, see the Installation and upgrading handbook. If you are unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your hosting provider.

Library API browser-editor - didn't understand - not tested.

Hello Erel,

Thanks for doing this - it was an excellent test that we the maintainers should actually run every now and then! We'll see if we can easily rescue the dysfunctional demos and otherwise hide them from the demo page.

Thanks for testing the demos! We the maintainers actually test the demos every
now and then, but we of course still welcome problem reports from anyone using
the demos!

Regarding the problems you found:

* Minibar offline: I updated it, it should work again (works best in Opera).
* Word-completing translator: works as intended as far as I can tell. Note
though that if you enter text in the wrong language, nothing happens. Select
the right language in the "From:" menu first.
* Multilingual Wiki: I fixed a permission problem, so it should now be
possible to add new restaurants.
* WebALT Math translator: not hosted here, and I don't know who maintains it.
I could remove the link...

About the Word-completing translator - the problem was I started with a capital "That cheese..."

Thomas, please wait before removing the link to the WebALT translator. I
have been trying to fix the issue of static backups since some time now.
You could write something like (currently under maintenance) and we will
inform you when it is back up.
