At UMaine, we strive to provide the safest and most secure environment for our students living on campus. We recently upgraded to a more secure lock system to ensure that students are safe on our campus and within our community.

Our dorm room locks are made by Assa Abloy and are the IN120 model. They utilize the Wi-Fi system for updates and are battery-powered. They will continue to work even during WiFi or power outages. Students can use their MaineCard or a mobile device to access their hall and their individual rooms on campus.

Your first step is to contact one of the Resident Assistants for your hall. They have a master key and can open your room for you. They will always be your first stop.

If you cannot reach your Resident Assistant, your next step is to call the University of Maine Police Department at (207) 581-4040. They can verify your identity for security purposes and can assist you 24/7 with a room lockout.

This could be several things. If you have a roommate, have them try their MaineCard on your shared door lock. If their card works and yours does not, then you will need to visit the MaineCard Office for troubleshooting assistance.

If it does seem to be a lock issue, please call (207) 581-4371 between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and our Lock Team will be out to assist you. If you cannot reach someone by phone, please email aux.s...@maine.edu with your Hall, Room Number, Name and Phone Number and that will create a ticket straight into our queue.

If you are locked out after 4:30 pm, please contact your Resident Assistant first. If you are unable to reach them, your next step is to call the University of Maine Police Department at (207) 581-4040.

I know a lot of us have looked for smart locks for sliding doors. I'd settle for any sort of keyless lock just to allow our sliding door to be unlocked from the outside without a key. Since Zigbee and Z-Wave are out of the question, anyone find anything like that?

The Yale lock only works with hinged doors if I'm reading it correctly. Has anyone tried that with a sliding door? The Tuya one: Anyone modify their door to work wit this? The current latch lock has a much smaller cutout. I'm game if anyone has tried this with success.

Dang I need that Zwave one for the Anderson door. But damn almost $400! My Anderson door has a busted spring inside the handle and I need to replace the whole assembly. For the last year we just manually lift up on the handle to secure the door.

The fundamental issue is that glass slider door hardware is not standardized the way hinged door hardware is standardized. Each company makes totally different hardware, the door prep is totally different and the frame strike is totally different...

You end up not using their latch at all, but rather replacing the lock with this one. I bought one and will install. I'll document it and see how we like it. At least it provides what we want most, which is keyless external access.

I'm replacing my door and the one that I chose has a thumb turn thingy on the inside. There are a number of add on smart lock deadbolt adapters. I'm going to see if one them like this would work. Not ideal, but better than nothing.

Neat idea. My Pella also has a thumbturn, but when in the locked position, it is parallel to and UNDER the handle (red arrow), so this unfortunately won't work on what Pella calls their "Standard" slider hardware.

In 2020 the state of Minnesota adopted ASME A17.3-2015 - Safety Code for Existing Elevators and Escalators. New in the 2015 version of this code is section 3.10.12; commonly referred to as door lock monitoring." This requirement ensures that an elevator will not operate if the hoistway door interlock or car door gate switch circuitry were either bypassed or failed in a way that renders the circuitry bypassed.

Elevator controllers manufactured to meet the A17.1-2000 - Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, likely have door lock monitoring. Because of the adoption dates of previous editions of ASME Codes in Minnesota, each elevator controller installed prior to 2007 will have to be evaluated to determine if it complies with this requirement or not. This can be confirmed by a qualified licensed elevator contractor or possibly by the controller manufactures records based on a serial number or similar reference.

Make your deadbolt smart without changing your lock! The Aegis Bosma Smart Door Lock turns your current deadbolt into a smart lock by simply replacing the indoor portion of your existing deadbolt. Keep your current key as a traditional backup. Get even more out of your smart deadbolt when you connect it to your Bosma Sentry system that allows you to unlock the door with a fingerprint and offers motion detection and facial recognition.

A: Yes, smart locks are as safe, and in most cases, safer than regular locks. Many of the security risks associated with smart locks can be resolved by correctly installing and using the smart deadbolt technology. Optimizing the safety of the lock includes securing your network and preventing tampering. Upgrade your router security settings, change your default network name and password, create dedicated VLANS, and install extensive firewalls.

A: The three main components of the smart deadbolt are the deadbolt cover lock/unlock mechanism, the door plate, and the Aegis WiFi Gateway. Learn more about these parts in the user manual.

Easy to install. Autolock would be MUCH improved if longer delay was added or would only activate if outside bluetooth range of phone. I have step out for a quick second (to grab a paper or run trash out) only to be locked out, even with longest delay set. of the 2 locks I ordered, 1 stripped gears, but was quickly replaced under warranty.

Usage: Very convenient. No more awkward moments when I tried to reach to the keys while dropping my bags. And the auto-lock saves the panic attack of forgetting to lock the door. I am still think about formally giving my friend their no-app guest keys but there is no doubt that it is so useful.

It works fairly well most of the time. Auto lock and unlock on the other hand not so much, spotty at best. I read there is an firmware update coming to address this, so hopefully that will solve this problem.

Yale initially focused on improving bank safe locks. He patented an "unpickable" lock, called the "Yale Infallible Bank Lock," in 1855. A number of improved key-based bank locks followed. Yale then developed the first combination lock, eliminating the need for a key. Next, the inventor turned his attention to general-use locks. He improved on his father's design for small key and tumbler locks, and invented the first modern cylinder lock. Based on a pin-tumbler mechanism known to the ancient Egyptians, Yale devised a lock that used a smaller, flat key with serrated edges like those still in use today. His device became widely known as the "Yale lock."

In 1868, Yale and Henry R. Towne together established the company that became the Yale Lock Manufacturing Company. By the early twentieth century, the company employed more than 12,000 people worldwide. Yale locks are still widely used in both commercial and general applications.

Once support stops for Nest Secure on April 8, 2024, you'll no longer be able to use Nest Guard as a bridge to connect your Nest x Yale Lock to Wi-Fi. Only a Nest Connect will be able to connect your lock to Wi-Fi.

There are two different views: a quick 10-day overview with the number of events that occurred and a detailed view showing each lock event on a specific day. On most days, a quick glance at the overview will keep you informed about key activities. If something happens that needs your attention, like the lock being tampered with, the detailed view makes it easy to spot exactly when the event occurred as well as the activity leading up to it. Both views capture 10 days of history.

Despite a decade-long decrease, the number of burglaries committed in the United States still topped 900,000 in 2020 according to the FBI. Door locks can play a key role in continuing this trend by deterring would-be trespassers, while also helping maintain privacy.
