Anyway, I am going to try updating Quicktime on the laptop in question (actually multiple laptops, I have another user complaining of the same issue on a different user/powerpoint/). Will have to wait til morning, night folks! Thanks!

For non-Windows Players / users with no full copy of PowerPoint to install, from Office 2010 onwards PowerPoint presentations can be exported as a Video file. Export a PowerPoint file by using the option on the file menu from inside the PowerPoint application.

PowerPoint is a proprietary format from Microsoft and can only be displayed on a Windows-based signage player which has a full copy of Microsoft PowerPoint installed on each Windows Player. (Please see the Prepare your Windows Players section)

Install PowerPoint on your Windows PC alongside your Xibo Player and make the following adjustments to the Windows Registry to disable the windows prompt when opening the PowerPoint. Please ensure you have taken all necessary precautions when making these changes.

When displaying PowerPoint, Xibo is relying on Windows and PowerPoint to display the content. This means that error capture and reporting is outside the control of Xibo. To mitigate any issues we recommend disabling Windows error notifications. This can be done by following the steps here.

First, you did not mention the version of Powerpoint that created the slides. This could perhaps affect my answer, but given you mention ppt and not pptx, I am going to assume the version is earlier than Office 2007.

Second, I am an experienced MS-Office user, but somewhat of a newbie to LO. I would normally prefer to test my answer before giving it, but it may be awhile before I can do so and I would like to help you now if I can.

LO Impress should be able to open the ppt file. VLC makes a very nice player you can download for free (find it using your web search engine). I believe it should play the wmv format just fine. You just need to associate the wmv format with the VLC app on your computer.

Departments can have Smart TVs in their lobby areas to display content to their students (this can be for things such as office hours, upcoming events and important dates, relevant departmental news, etc.). Typically content is created in PowerPoint and users need a way to get their content displayed on the TV. This can be done by converting the PowerPoint into JPEG image files and loading them onto a flash drive and then playing them on the TV's built-in media player. Not all TVs are capable of this feature please, check with ITS before purchasing technology.

The add-in works in Microsoft Powerpoint 2016 for Mac and PC, PowerPoint 2013, PowerPoint Online, and PowerPoint for iPad. It also works in those versions of Excel. Using it is simple: for each video you want, insert Web Video Player, enter the video URL, and click Set Video.

The user base is growing (around 60,000 monthly user sessions as of August 2017), but I still only get 20 to 30 requests/bugs/feedback messages per week, so each time you contact me it helps me improve the add-in. So go ahead and tell me about any problems or suggestions at webvide...@outlook.com.

The easiest way to enter a video URL is simply to copy it from the address bar at YouTube or Vimeo. Here are examples of different URLs that are all supported and embed the same YouTube video:

  • =dQw4w9WgXcQ: This is a YouTube video URL copied from the address bar in your browser.
  • : This is a YouTube Sharing URL copied from YouTube's Share feature.
  • : This is a YouTube embed code URL copied from YouTube's embed feature.
  • =dQw4w9WgXcQ&list=RDQMdjpOzKFbGt8: This is a YouTube video URL from a playlist copied from the address bar in your browser. In Web Video Player the playlist won't play - only the single video.
If you encounter some other YouTube URL format that doesn't work but you think Web Video Player should understand it, send me an email and I'll try to add support for it.

The easiest way to select it is to click the edge of the video (left, right, top, or bottom). If you do it right, you should see eight small white "selection handles" appear at the corners and sides.

PowerPoint 2010 and 2011 for Mac do not support Web Video Player or any other web-based add-ins. If you're using Web Video Player with a presentation and then open that presentation in PowerPoint 2010 or 2011, you will still be able to use all the normal PowerPoint features, but the video will appear as a static image. Once you reopen the presentation in a supported (more-recent) version of PowerPoint, the video will play properly again.

Some users have reported a bug on Mac OS Yosemite that causes the sound to play against a black or white screen, without video displayed. Apple has corrected this issue in Mac OS Sierra. You can upgrade for free (instructions: -to-upgrade/).

If you have suggestions, requests for features you'd find useful, comments, bug reports, or you need help with something that isn't explained well above, please let me know at webvide...@outlook.com.

The add-in never collects, stores, or transmits information that can be used to identify you, except for PayPal data: If you use PayPal to contribute, then PayPal provides Web Video Player with the email address and name from your PayPal account.

Web Video Player is provided with basic video insertion and playing for free. It's funded via voluntary contributions, which can be made through PayPal from the Mac or Windows versions of Office. You must sign in to Office in the top right corner with a work, school, or personal account before purchasing.

Once a user contributes, the add-in stores their Office account identifier in a database. From then on, those users get access to premium features. Those users also get a promise to never see adds in Web Video Player, now and in the future. These premium features work no matter what computer, document, or operating system you use for Web Video Player. The number of files enabled for the single contribution is unlimited. The only requirement is that you sign in to Office.

Here is the current list of premium features. All of these are awarded to users who contribute:

  • Autoplay lets you configure the video to start playing when the add-in loads, without needing to click the Play button. If you select this option, the video will automatically start playing when you go to the slide with the video (and, as usual, stop automatically when you leave the slide).
  • Custom Start Time lets you configure the video to start at a specific time, other than 0:00. If you select this option, the video will reset to the custom start time every time you leave and return to the slide.
  • Custom End Time lets you configure the video to end at a specific time (only supported for YouTube videos)
All of these features work after the video is inserted, even if another user who did not make a contribution is opening the file.

Bulk licenses for are available at a discounted rate. The license can be applied to many users at an organization without the users needing to deal with payment for premium features individually. Contact me for details at webvide...@outlook.com.

This document discusses Patrick Lencioni's ideal team player as being humble, hungry, and smart. It defines each trait and explains what happens when people are strong in only one area. Humble means being interested in others and focused on the greater good rather than oneself. Hungry refers to a strong work ethic and passion. Smart means having emotional intelligence. The best combination is having all three traits, while being strong in just one can lead to problems like being a pawn, bulldozer, or charmer. Managers can use this framework for discussions and development.Read less

MacBook Air M2 Ventura 13.3.1(a). Quicktime-Player does not play mp4-files generated by Adobe Premiere. Sometimes a cold reboot helps. Sometimes .mpeg works. Change extension from .mp4 to .m4v executes apple tv and the file is played a.s.o.

You reference "H.265 Codec ID hev1 has an error message" I appreciate the explanation below your segment, but is there a fix thats in more laymans terms that I can try? I've never had this issue before and everything usually works just fine.

@Sputnik_1, I've tried opening an .MP4 both from within the finder and from within Quicktime Player and both times it gave me the not compatible warning. I'm using Mac OSX 12.5 Monterey. The only solution I've found so far is to use VLC player.

QuickTime Player refuses to play some H.265/HEVC flavors (as well as Final Cut Pro 10.6). Currently macOS 11-13 Big Sur, Monterey and Ventura are more forgiving but they still has the following issues with "Codec ID" and "Chroma subsampling" options.

H.265 Codec ID hev1 has an error message "This file contains some media that isn't compatible with QuickTime Player" and plays audio only. There is a lossless fix if you install ffmpeg and add '-tag:v hvc1' without re-encoding in the Terminal:
