Querying a large number of names from ULAN - timeouts?

I want to query about 500k preferred names programmatically. Are there any limitations I should be aware of? Do I need to implement any timeouts?

If you mean "to fetch" 500k, then this is not advisable. You'd need to use an increasing OFFSET, and when the offset gets bigger and bigger the server will respond slower and slower: it still needs to materialize all results but discard the beginning until it gets to the desired OFFSET.

If you want all ULAN people, download the complete ULAN and work with a local copy.
