Hi GAIT folks!

Below is info on an open house about design options for Newport Way NW.

We definitely need a showing from people interested in alternative transportation.

There are basically two options on the table. One is to add traffic signals and a center turn lane along the length of Newport from Maple Street by Target to Sunset Way. The other option would skip the center turn lane, add a landscaped median, and bike lanes on both sides of the street and use roundabouts in place of signals.

The roundabout option would provide better traffic volumes, better access and safety for bikes and peds, and it's cheaper to implement. It will face some opposition since roundabouts are still rare around here and drivers aren't used to them yet.

Please come out if you can, leave your comments on the subject, and talk with your neighbors.

Open House: Newport Way NW Design Options

Newport Way Northwest

How should nearly a mile of Newport Way Northwest – near Issaquah Valley Elementary School – be enhanced? Come share your opinion at the City of Issaquah’s upcoming open house at 7 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009 at Issaquah Valley Elementary School, 555 NW Holly St.

Through this project, the City aims to improve the following along Newport Way Northwest from West Sunset Way to Northwest Maple Street:

·            Safety and traffic flow

·            Facilities for cyclists and walkers

·            Stormwater management

·            The visual appeal of the corridor with a landscaped median/planters
