Six Thinking Hats and GTD| GTD-DC

Challenges Forum:


Topic: Automating filters for bringing information to me (interest filters)

  • Native apple podcast app can create lists

  • Stitcher → sends to evernote (can save as offline note)

    • Evernote clipper to the show page (but still need to download as audio file to the note)

  • Overcast.fm will sync to your twitter and provide recommendations

  • IFFT for notification

  • Podcast as RSS feed get an email


Topic: Being consistent as you implement GTD w/o getting overwhelmed (owns a business needs time to process brain dumps, when to start weekly reviews)

  • Start Today!

  • Based on what I know figure out points to focus on (get current)

  • For backlog (inbox/mindsweep) triage - today, yesterday than oldest; always clearing up the rear guard as you move forward; 1-2 items a day

  • Remember mindset before vacation on how you clear the deck and use that to carry forth the GTD spirit

  • Get the stack into one list (so its all captured)


Topic:  Resources for managing family asset only child, relatives

  • AARP website

  • Alexander a Bove Jr- Book: Laymans guide to trusts and estates (3rd edition)

  • Certified elder law attorney - NALA

  • Medicaid asset recovery

  • Letters of last instructions (non legal but binding)


Topic: How to cope better with low energy in regards to work tasks and environment

  • Utilize meditation

  • St John wort herb for calming (please check with doctors before trying)

  • Diet - start with a good nutritious smoothie ginseng etc vs coffee

  • Physical movement - gives your mind time to recover as it process while your away

  • Going away to conference room get away write things out

  • Journaling as way to express feeling

  • Stick to single tasking (book)


Topic: How to start journaling

  • Do you feel an inner dialogue (aka do you talk to yourself)

  • Use that voice as the way to start the journal habit

  • Start writing don’t over think remember that no one else is going to read it

  • Try doodling or drawing as way to get going or write something down

  • Try a journal with daily prompts

  • Ritualize it: find a time or another habit to bring together or clear head transitioning into another part of the day

  • Start small with journaling

  • Book Mini-habits: use small goals to start off the habit

  • Try using photos only don’t worry about out caption or anything ‘writing”


Topic: Better managing time and conserving energy for tasks at the end of the day; tend to schedule tasks late at night but too tired and they don’t get done

  • Try sleep earlier and get up 3 hours earlier

  • Can try to and train yourself to get up in the morning

  • Use time blocking estimate tasks appropriately

  • Don’t label self as night owl etc but can be limited; remember we are human first and shift mindset as you can get anything done

  • Eat that frog - Brian Tracey - book; get the most annoying thing done in the morning

  • Cold showers to get awake and get energized

Background:

  • Origin of the current GTD meet up structure based on the psychological thought process of (6TH); yellow for introductions


Summary

  • Primarily used for facilitating meetings

  • 6 different thinking modes

    • White - analytics

    • Red- feeling, morals values

    • Black - pits falls negativity

    • Yellow - optimism positivity

    • Green - generation of ideas

    • Blue - convergent, focus & clarity

  • In a meeting everyone is thinking from different perspectives; the hats become the same lenses that everyone can think in similar fashion

  • Can help deter negative thinking and promote forward thinking

  • Metacognition thinking about how we think

  • Rays thought’s adding color - spilt thinking into positive/negative - spectrum of emotional palate & adding physical thinking (movement as function) visual thinking


Blending with GTD

  • Project Planning - natural project model, brainstorming

  • Project Planning - triggers list  (large projects)

  • Use colors for consistency when managing task and/or working with others

  • Weekly review - pick a hat for the 11 actions that make up the review process

  • Using Archetypes for the colors

  • 8 sided diagram (fend suit- Chinese principal) life categories can be mapped to this colors

  • Can use personal data or tags and map to colors to get a visual quantative chart to ensure a life balance
