Good Monday morning, GTDers!
David Allen beings Chapter Seven of Ready for Anything with his sage, bold statement: “Maintaining a complete, current, and reviewable inventory of all the open loops, no matter how big or small they are, is a prerequisite for setting trustworthy priorities.” There’s been nothing more important to understanding why a personal productivity system is important to me than this knowledge; I cannot trust my system if it doesn’t have a healthy level of control over what could have my attention divided if I let it. Don’t let the bane of inattention stymie your work and life goals! Get the right data out of your head and into a trustable place; then and only then will you have the mental, emotional stability to have the relaxed focus and creative energy that Allen speaks consistently.
Here are the questions for this week from Ready for Anything:
“What have you decided to ignore because it doesn’t seem that important right now?”
“How important would it be if it was already accomplished?”
“How would you feel once it was done?”
Next week: Closing open loops releases energy.
Here’s to your productive life,
Ray
