Himalayan Marathon with a big thank-you to the Cancer Council Queensland

I returned from the Himalayan Mountains yesterday and what an experience!  The scenery was spectacular (links to photos below).  46 people (31 men & 15 women) completed the full marathon and I came in 32nd.  It took me 6hrs 18 mins to complete the trail.  It was picture perfect scenery in some very difficult terrain.  I was out of breath getting to the starting line and it stayed that way through out the 42kms.  The highlights were the Lama blessing at Hemis Monastery at the start of the race, the Ladakhi locals that greeted every runner as we passed and the wonderful people I met over my week in the Himalayas. 

Thanks so much for everyone's very kind generosity.  I raised $12,500 through the charity website and with Goldman Sachs' Matching Program it should take it over $20,000.

In 3 weeks I plan to run a marathon across the Himalayas.  This will be my second marathon (but my first at 12,136 feet) situated on the Tibetan plateau in the peaceful area of the Indus Valley. 

I am using this event to raise awareness for The Cancer Council Queensland after my niece Jade was diagnosed with bone cancer in December.  My sister's family has been offered a tremendous amount of support by the Cancer Council and this is my way to say a big thank-you for the great work they do.  The link below will take you to my sponsorship website.
