Hi!

After coming back to java web development after a couple of years, I'm
a bit disappointed by all the frameworks available : they all use
properties to translate strings.

I love gettext for all the reason explained on the main page of this
project but I see there is very poor support for gettext in apps let
alone webapps.

I'd like to contribute a JSTL-based taglib to use commons-gettext
easily in JSPs.

Would this match the scope of the project or is it bound to be only
the base I18N+build support?

This blog entry : http://blogs.igalia.com/dpino/?p=112 pretty much
summaries what I had in mind except I'd like to come up with a fully
documentated taglib based on the JSTL (to use LocalizationContext).
That would be the equivalent of the JSTL <msg:fmt> tag used to
translate via resource bundles. I'd keep the same function names as in
the commons-gettext and provide additional tags to hook the language
selection up for instance.

thanks,

Hi,

that sounds like an interesting project.

Could you give an example of how this would work. What would the
taglib offer? How would a sample jsp look like with gettext i18n
support?

Cheers,
Felix
