Thank you for contacting me about the Representation of the People Bill and Alex Sobel MP's amendment to establish a National Commission on Electoral Reform.

While the amendment was not selected for debate and therefore was not voted on in the House of Commons, I support the principle behind it and was happy to back the proposal. The amendment sought to require the Government to report on the feasibility of establishing a National Commission on Electoral Reform to review the operation of the voting system for elections to the House of Commons.

I believe it is important that we continue to consider how our democratic institutions can best reflect the wishes of voters. I will continue to support measures brought before Parliament that advocate for reform of our voting system and strengthen public confidence in our democracy.
