The Commission received a substantial number of submissions on democratic and electoral reform, which sat beyond the core scope of this year’s consultation.

 

Many individual members, CLPs and organisations called for the establishment of a National Commission on Electoral Reform and the introduction of a more proportional voting system.

 

A number of submissions argued that electoral reform would strengthen public trust and democratic resilience, while others outlined their continued support for the existing First Past the Post system.

 

Throughout the consultation, the Britain Reconnected Commission discussed the number of submissions on this issue and reflected on the broad range of proposals put forward.

 

They discussed the possibility of hearing from expert speakers at future commission meetings, including those with experience of campaigning and governing under alternative electoral systems.
