For years you, and tens of thousands of others, have helped build the biggest wave of support for electoral reform this country has ever seen. PR was written off as a fringe issue at the top. Yet in 2024, together we helped elect the most pro-PR Parliament in history. We’ve continued to build on that support ever since: this May, Alex Sobel MP tabled an amendment to the Representation of the People Bill calling for a National Commission on electoral reform. Thanks to our coalition's work, it’s now won backing from more than a quarter of Labour MPs and just under 200 MPs across all parties – making it the most-signed amendment of the last Parliament. Andy Burnham has told us he wants change. Now he needs to show us he means it. There’s something simple he can do right away to set his direction of travel. In his first 100 days, announce a National Commission on electoral reform. Bring experts and citizens in to finally build a proportional voting system that makes every vote count, and unlocks lasting, progressive change. As Andy himself put it: “There is nothing more unstoppable than an idea whose time has come. And PR’s time has come.” |
