"My name’s Livvy, and I joined Make Votes Matter in 2024 after seeing first-hand how much fairer, more hopeful, and more engaging politics can be under a Proportional Representation system. I spent a year studying abroad in New Zealand, where I got involved in their 2023 General Election campaign. When I came home for our own election in 2024, the difference hit me hard. In New Zealand, people, especially young people, were excited to vote. They knew their voice counted. They believed they could make a difference. Here in the UK, so many of my friends just feel hopeless. They as, “What’s the point?” because under First Past the Post, their votes often don’t count. That’s what inspired me to reach out to Make Votes Matter, and I’ve been volunteering ever since. I’ve spoken at events, run lessons with sixth formers, and helped organise our big summer rally. Every time I meet someone new, I see that spark of hope when they realise: we can change this. I’ve been lucky - I’ve had the time and resources to get involved. But not everyone can. Your support of Make Votes Matter has helped to make sure that anyone, no matter their background, can take part in this movement for a fairer democracy." Thank you for helping campaigners like Livvy fight for a fairer future. We’re incredibly grateful to be able to take you with us as the movement heats up ahead of the local elections in May. |
