Hello everyone,

The SSC would like to wish everyone the best of luck on finals, and let you know what's going on this week and next!

1. Water Awareness Month (WAM!) wrap-up.
2. Stand up for peace and non-violence!
3. Save San Diego transportation!
4. The Food Co-op's new library, coming soon!

1. Thanks to everyone who made Water Awareness Month (WAM!) a HUGE success!

Warren College decreased water consumption by 35% compared to last November! Campus-wide water-savings totals coming soon!

Although Water Awareness Month is over, we have only started conserving water on campus! It is not too late to sign the pledge and reduce not only your own water footprint, but also support the 12 Step Plan to raise campus water standards including phasing out of bottled water throughout campus!

Warren College was chosen as a test pilot for online automated water meter readings–see the tournament standings between buildings here. Warren saved 876,807 gallons of water compared to last November! So far this year, UC San Diego’s consumes an average of 1.2 million gallons of water per day.

It only takes one housemate to influence a whole suite of water users by modeling sustainable behavior. Take shorter showers, if it is yellow, let it mellow, use reusable bottles, or save gray water! There are many ways to conserve water and many opportunities for change.

·       Print out water conservation reminders for your house today!

Congratulations to the winners of the Combat AQUAholism Film, Art and Innovation Competition! These works of art and the honorable mentions will be displayed at the new Sustainability Resource Center starting next quarter–come check them out!

·       Film – John Hong: Nine Ways to Conserve Water

·       Art – Kim Cyprian: Water Dependency

Get involved with the Student Water Collaborative next quarter to help sustain this momentum and decrease water consumption at UC San Diego! There is an SWC meeting TOMORROW, December 2nd directly above the Food Co-Op at 5:00pm. Check our website later for more details on meeting times next quarter.

2. Stand up for Peace and NonViolence!

The World March for Peace and Nonviolence will be back in San Diego on this Thurs. Dec. 3, see the event page with information, invitation, and map to the celebration from 1-2:30 at Larsen Field in San Ysidro - http://worldmarch-sd.org/Border.html.  If you missed the human peace sign on campus, join us at the border to show your commitment to peace.

3. Save San Diego Transportation!
Because of inadaquate tax revenue and failure of the city to raise taxes accordingly, MTS is proposing to substantially reduce bus and trolley services on Sundays. See the full proposal here: http://tinyurl.com/ydt4xb2 and an SD Union-Tribune article about it here: http://tinyurl.com/ylj5ef9

4. The Food Co-op new library coming soon!

The Food Co-op, with help from the Neighborhood Community Garden will be working to create a sustainable gardening library inside of the Food Co-op so that all those who enjoy the Co-op's fresh and healthy items can learn how to grow some on their own as well!  The bookshelf will be constructed over the break and ready for your viewing pleasure starting Winter Quarter.  Check it out!
