Hi -- I'm doing some mapping/research on grant money coming into my
university for the second version of a 'disOrientation atlas' (the
first one is up here if anyone's interested
http://www.countercartographies.org/disorientation-guide-mainmenu-31/
). I've got a list of about 850 funding sources, each the name of a
corporation/foundation/agency, and am looking for a dataset I can use:

1) really basic level, to code them by for-profit vs non-profit vs
government (some of this I can do with keyword searches like "Inc." or
"Foundation", but there are still about 500 names that would need
manual coding)

2) to link in some sort of ratings about Corporate Social
Responsibility and/or lobbying/advocacy work. I'd especially like to
be able to distinguish between not-for-profits whose major role is
grant-making vs those who have a clear agenda and do strong advocacy
work..

Anyone got leads on either a basic categorized dataset of
corporate/non-profit names or a more detailed CSR/influence database?
Further down the line I'd love to start using corporate/foundation
interlock data too if anyone knows where to get a (free) up-to-date
dataset...

You can get a list of nonprofits here:

Would love to see something like this but I doubt it exists.

givewell.net has some evaluations along these lines for non-profit
charities that run direct programs. There's not very much out there
in general though.
