Hi,
I love Gesture Search and use it often :) - but can't use it totally
all the time :( because of a complete mismatch whenever it encounters
non-English alphabet letters. BTW, I live in the US and yet use
accented letters in peoples' names and song titles all the time. Are
there any plans to address this?
Some suggestions on handling the issue:
1. Treat accented letters as if they were non-accented letters. For
example an "e" would also account for all accented or otherwise
modified "e" letters, end so forth. Sort of like a wild character
search of the explicit "e" and all "e" derived letters. I would prefer
this approach because it would locate a string regardless if I used
the correct accented letter or just used the letter itself (I do it
both ways as it turns out for a number of good reasons). This is how
one of the the (sorry, dating myself) Tro apps (TAKEphONE to be exact)
was doing it and it worked absolutely great!
BTW - in Polish, which I happen to use, there are eight English
letters that also have an accented version in the lower and upper
cases: a/A c/C e/E l/L n/N o/O s/S z/Z so a chance of a mismatch is
pretty big.
2. Modify the existing leftward horizontal line gesture (an option?)
so that it includes characters (letters, punctuation marks, whatever
else can be in a string) that don't have a specific gesture assigned
to them (as opposed to only recognizing a space). Alternatively, come
up with a special gesture just for that. This would allow to search
song titles that often have characters like "-" or "'" or "?", etc.
Thanks for a great app as is!
