Problem finding contacts

i am having problems finding contacts that are in my contacts folder,
I have a rather large contacts file (aprox. 600 ). There are aprox. 60
names that start with the letter B but when I write the letter B in
gesture it only shows about 4 of them then starts looking at the
letter B in other words where B is not the primary or first letter in
the name.
I thought at first it might be because it was not seeing either my
phone contact folder or my gmail contact folder but that does not seem
to matter. I put the same contact name in both places and gesture
could not find either one. Has anyone seen this problem? Any ideas?
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that had no effect.

Currently, Gesture Search only searches contacts that have a phone
number. Is this the case for those contacts that didn't show up?

No, they all have phone numbers. I can't figure it out.
