The sale will run through practice approx 3:30/4pm through 6:30pm. We invite alumni to come and sell their equipment if they wish!
Below is a list of required and or highly recommended equipment for all skaters. We want our skaters to be as safe as can be on the ice and proper equipment is essential!
-Neck guard (required) -speed skate neck guards differ from hockey. Ours are a different material, softer and more comfortable. They cover a larger area of neck and collar bone area providing a safer coverage with less gaps.
-Knee pads (required) -any type of knee pads will work. They protect us from injury during falls. The majority of skin suits have built in knee pads. If you have built in knee pads you do not need separate ones.
-Shin guards (required) - soccer or hockey shin guards are ok for recreational skaters. Skin suits have a little pouch where you can slip hard soccer guards inside. No messing with straps. They protect our legs during falls and from any accidental encounters with blades.
-Gloves (required) - full finger gloves are required to protect our hands. We highly recommend cut proof gloves as our skate blades are very sharp. They do not have to be speed skate brand at the recreational level. Gloves such as cut proof work gloves (Home Depot) or food grade (kitchen knife cut proof) work just fine and may of our skaters wear those!
-Ankle covers (required/highly recommended) - Ankles must be covered at all times! While cut proof ankle covers are not required we highly recommend them to protect your ankles from blades during skating and falls. If your ankles are showing at all on ice you will be asked to leave the ice until they are covered. Most skaters use kitchen Kevlar cut proof sleeves (without thumb holes) these can be found on Amazon. They come in a few different lengths to fit your skater.
-Cut suit (recommended/required at national level) -speed skate Kevlar cut suits help protect our entire body from our blades should we come into contact with them. Some skin suits can have them fully or partially built in. Others are a separate cut suit you wear under your regular clothes or suit. These are highly recommended.
-Helmet (required) - helmets are required for everyone. Any type of bike helmet is ok at the recreational level. At the national level a closed speed skate helmet is required.
