CAMP RAMAH in the POCONOS UPDATE

February 17, 2012

24 Shevat 2012

In November 2011 I wrote to you about our transition to a new Director for Summer 2013 to succeed Rabbi Todd Zeff who will direct this coming Summer 2012.  Over the last several months, a search committee assembled by the Ramah Poconos Board of Directors along with the National Ramah Commission conducted an extensive search for our new Director in which candidates from all over the world applied. We believe that many of those candidates would be successful directors but we could only choose one. From this pool of highly talented candidates we have selected an outstanding new Director.

We are pleased to report that Rabbi Joel Seltzer, a native of the Philadelphia area and a former Ramah Poconos camper, Rosh Edah, and Rosh Anaf ( Drama) has agreed to become the Director of Camp Ramah in the Poconos.  Rabbi Seltzer is currently the  rabbi at Temple Emanu-el , a large Conservative synagogue in Providence, Rhode Island where he has been serving his congregants since being ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary in 2008. He combines both strong camping experiences, particularly at Camp Ramah in the Poconos, with the added perspective of managing and performing at large complex Jewish organizations in Rhode Island and Long Island, New York.

Rabbi Seltzer will start a training and transitional program this summer within the Ramah system and there will be opportunities to meet him in the coming months.  Many in the Ramah community already know Rabbi Seltzer and have come to the same conclusion that the search committee and Board have: that his judgment, knowledge, humor, preparation and passion for the richness of Jewish life and education are very contagious. We look forward to working with him and to a successful Summer 2012 and beyond.

I hope to see all of you on March 8, 2012 at our Tribute Benefit & Silent Auction, honoring the past presidents of Camp Ramah in the Poconos.

Sincerely yours,

David Goldstein

President

Camp Ramah in the Poconos
