Hi Ramah Friends,

As you may know, on Thursday, March 8, Camp Ramah will be hosting its first annual benefit (finally!!). I'm so thrilled that camp is finally realizing the need for active fundraising and is reaching out to the community at-large. While I can't be there in person, I want the event to succeed, with many years of successful events to follow. I'd love to purchase an ad in the Ad Journal, but since it's a bit pricey, I thought it might be nice to buy an ad from our whole edah. Please let me know how you guys feel about it, and if you want to go in on this. Depending on interest and how many people would like to contribute can determine the size of the ad we buy - maybe a half page?

I'll be in charge of collecting funds if someone will volunteer to write the letter - do we have a writer in the house? I'd do it, but I'm preparing for my synagogue/day school's 100th anniversary gala, which is also in march, and I'm a bit overcommitted.

If everyone who's interested in participating wants to email me asap, we can determine the size of the ad based on people who want to participate. As you can image, I can't afford to front the money, so once we decide which ad we'll buy, I can send you my address to send me checks, and then I can write a check to camp...after all, I work for a Jewish nonprofit ;)

I think a 1/4-page may be more doable.  It is $360, so if we can get 20 people, it would be $18 each, which isn't bad.

It's an ad for the ad journal in honor of Ramah's 1st annual tribute event. I would recommend writing an ad on behalf of the entire edah of Gesher 2000. Not sure how Gesher Fund fits in.... am I missing something?

i'm going to make a shameless plug for my bf's company.  they have a tool that allows groups to raise money.  if you set up an account everyone can just electronically transfer money to our cause and no one has to worry about fitting the bill and/or collecting individual checks.

Hi guys,

 

i created the raise money widget.  I set the goal for $360 (amount for the 1/4 page ad) and gave us to Feb 20 to raise the funds (the due date). 

 

so this is how it works.  click on the link below to contribute money.  In order to transfer the funds, you will need to create an account and link your bank account or debit card (all completely free).  plus, the first time you set up an account, you automatically get $10 free so if we hit the 20-person mark yet, then instead of paying $18, you're only paying $8!  what a bargain!

also, there's no obligation to do this.  i just thought it would be easier.  we might even think about creating a facebook page for the Gesher Fund and then the widget could live on the page and then whenever we want to donate, it's already there for us.  but if people would prefer to write checks and mail them to a point person that's fine too.  just let me know one way or the other.

 

i will check on the widget in a week to see if people have contributed.  if not, i can just take it down.

As it stands, that would be $18 per person. Thanks for setting up the widget, Andi. I'm not so familiar with this program - could you possibly explain how it works? If I fill in the amount into the widget, once I set up an account from which to transfer funds, will it automatically go to camp? How will they know this is for the Ad Journal? Just want to make sure that when we send in the form with our Ad Journal commitment, we all know/they know how the money will get to them. As long as I understand how this process works, I'm totally comfortable doing it this way as long as the team is - guys please weigh in and let us know if you're cool with this.

Also, I just noticed the widget says "Gesher Fund." Not sure who is going to see this, but the money isn't going to the Gesher Fund - this is specifically for the Ad Journal for the Tribute Dinner. Not sure if it matters

i thought the gesher fund was buying the ad.  we could rename it...  but i also figured this widget could be used for all of our edah's fundraising initiatives.

 

no, the money won't automatically go to camp.  camp would also have to set up a serve account.  this is just like paypal.  all parties need an account for the electronic transfer to happen.  i'm assuming camp doesn't have a serve account.  in that case because i created the widget, i could transfer the money from the widget into my bank account and then pay for the $360 ad in full.

Andi, thank you for setting up the widget, just a question? Is this safe? I'm a little nervous to be linking my bank account to a third party account, especially if it's not going directly to camp... Maybe someone could explain how it works a little bit better to me, I just know so many people whose accounts have been hacked into, so just a little worried!!!

I would also be happy to collect checks from everyone and then send it to camp. Also, julie are you still writing up the ad?!

Don't worry, Maamah. This sounds like its the same thing as paypall. I think it will be much easier if we all use the widget to collect funds from everyone. It's great that we have so many people who are interested in contributing. Maybe we should each donate what we are comfortable contributing and be less concerned about making the math worth for the price of the ad. All the money is a contribution to camp, so if people would like to pay more than $8 it is fine if we exceed $360. Also, a shout out to Andi for hooking us up with an extra $10 per person. I agree Singers and Andi, this widget will streamline the money collection - sounds great!  Andi, just checking - if it reaches $360, can it go over?  I love the idea of putting any extra toward the GesherFund (great call, Naamah). 

We have to submit the ad form and money by the end of next week - so let's get the donations started!

I will still write the ad.  I will send it out to the group by early next week for feedback, before we have to submit it.  (It won't be very long and involved.)
