Not to play Dog Pile on EWQL but the reason I never went with them for orchestral samples is because they seemed to me to be a one trick pony in that regard. If all you do is big in-your-face Hollywood styled film scores EWQL will, at least, get you there. But it won't get you anywhere else. That's why VSL is a superior product. You can do big Hollywood scores, small intimate chamber pieces with various setting arrangements, experimental avant-garde stuff, Pop music, Jazz, whatever...
Internationally renowned American conductor Leonard Slatkin began his critically acclaimed appointment as the 12th music director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in the 2008-2009 season. He also continues to serve as principal guest conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, another post that began in fall of 2008. Following a17-year tenure as music director of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, Slatkin became music director of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., in 1996. Since his debut with the New York Philharmonic in 1974, Slatkin has led virtually all of the major orchestras in the United States, including those of Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Cleveland and Philadelphia. His performances throughout North America, Europe and the Far East have been distinguished by imaginative programming and highly praised interpretations of both the standard and contemporary symphonic repertoire. Additionally, Slatkin is well-known for his arts advocacy work on behalf of music education.
The gala show, with the theme of "East Meets West in Operas," showcased the CPO's successful experiment in combining China's traditional Peking Opera with Western symphonic form and demonstrated the orchestra's crossover ability and growing mastery of world classics.
Based on the former China Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, the CPO was established on May 25, 2000, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the history of symphonic music in the country. From its very beginning, the orchestra set an objective of becoming the top-ranking at home, among the best in Asia, and well-known in the world.
