From Security List to Advisor to the Prime Minister

Koby Orgad introduced himself as working in the research department of the Prime Minister’s Office. He invited me to meet him at an office on the fifth floor of the Shalom Tower building in Tel Aviv the following week. He said the office had a sign on it, “Prime Minister’s Office, Research Department.” Well, I did my own little research only to discover that the Prime Minister’s Office did not have a research department. Most strange! I showed up at the office at the set time and sure enough there was a bronze sign on the door with the insignia of the State of Israel: Prime Minister’s Office—Research Department. I rang the bell and was buzzed in. Koby came out to greet me. There was a long corridor that appeared to lead to a series of doors next to each other—interrogation rooms. Koby began by explaining that Prime Minister Rabin created a secret team of five people from different branches of the intelligence community to advise him on the peace process.
