Hello everyone,

I am new to gerris and we encountered a problem that I hope someone can help me figure out. A staff who is currently on vacation installed gerris in our cluster several weeks ago, but he was not able to get it to work 100%. According to the user who requested gerris and is currently using it, he tried running some examples with our installation of gerris, but was not able to get it to work. Since the staff that installed gerris is not available, I decided to take up the challenge and try to figure out the problem the user is experiencing. More specifically, the error we get is the following:

[aaguilar@crcfe01 2D Parallel]$ ./parallel.sh
gerris: file `parallel.gfs' is not a valid simulation file
parallel.gfs:41:9: error compiling expression
gcc: error: Parallel: No such file or directory

gerris: file `parallel-s2.gfs' is not a valid simulation file
parallel-s2.gfs:1406474800:32626: expecting an integer (number of nodes)
PE 3 (crcfe01.crc.nd.edu): gerris: file `parallel-p2.gfs' is not a valid simulation file
parallel-p2.gfs:0:0: expecting an integer (number of nodes)
PE 1 (crcfe01.crc.nd.edu): gerris: file `parallel-p2.gfs' is not a valid simulation file
parallel-p2.gfs:0:0: expecting an integer (number of nodes)
PE 0 (crcfe01.crc.nd.edu): gerris: file `parallel-p2.gfs' is not a valid simulation file
parallel-p2.gfs:0:0: expecting an integer (number of nodes)
PE 2 (crcfe01.crc.nd.edu): gerris: file `parallel-p2.gfs' is not a valid simulation file
parallel-p2.gfs:0:0: expecting an integer (number of nodes)

The parallel.sh file is from the parallel example located in the following website. http://gerris.dalembert.upmc.fr/gerris/examples/examples/cylinder.html#htoc4. I have searched for any similar problems online to no avail. If you need anymore information, feel free to ask. I appreciate the help.

Thank you,
Antelmo Aguilar

Hi Antelmo,

Sorry for the late reply.

> [aaguilar@crcfe01 2D Parallel]$ ./parallel.sh
> gerris: file `parallel.gfs' is not a valid simulation file
> parallel.gfs:41:9: error compiling expression
> gcc: error: Parallel: No such file or directory

This is the same problem as reported recently here:

https://groups.google.com/d/topic/gerris-users/LX7OUj56oIA/discussion

The fix is the same (i.e. remove spaces in directory name). The next
release of Gerris will include a complete fix.

cheers

Stephane
