Liebe/Dear Gerlind Institute Community,

It's not too late to RSVP--there are still a couple of seats available for our oral history event with Leticia Andreas-Wolf on Sunday, January 15, 2012, 6-8 p.m. at the Gerlind Institute for Cultural Studies in Oakland.

Leticia will speak about growing up in East Germany (GDR), how a dramatic event forced her family to leave the East for West Germany in the 1970s, her immigration to the USA in the early 1990s, and how being an immigrant made her become closer to her homeland and city of birth than ever before. Leticia will also bring a slide show with photos from her visit in Germany last year. Her presentation will be followed by a reception with light refreshments. RSVP by January 12 (today). We would be delighted if you could attend as we expect this to be an exciting evening!

Ingrid Eggers, organizer of the "German Gems" film festival (January 14, 2012 at the Castro Theatre) in San Francisco, wrote:

"just two more days, and then 'so long, farewell'.  Don't miss your last chance to see these Gems and don't forget to tell your friends.

Bis Samstag im Castro!

ingrid"

p.s. I intend to be at the screening of  "Unter Kontrolle" at 11 a.m.--is anybody else from our GICS community going? I'll bring some "Atomkraft? Nein danke" stickers which a friend kindly sent me from Germany.

Christiane Frederickson from AATG-NorCal sent members this link re. Germany and its leading role on renewable energies and commented:

"Jeremy Rifkin zu Gast bei Charlie Rose am 6. Januar, auf youtube hier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ppw5O-Vtxcs ... this short segment ( 9 minutes) should be one of the best PR-pieces for studying German in 2012. The topic is Renewable Energies. Wow, in der Tat!"

Liebe Grüße aus Oakland,

Marion
