I'm trying to create a Software item to filter for PCs that actually have Winzip. So far so good as I am checking for programfiles\winzip\winzip32.exe but is there something I can check to see if the installed copy is the registered or eval version?

To download any of the following zip files, click the right mouse on the "Download" link and select "Save target as" in the pop-up menu. The corresponding zip file will be saved on your computer in the directory you choose. Go to that directory in a windows explorer. Locate the zip file and unzip it. You will get a file with the same name, with .zip in the file name replaced by .exe. Run the executable by double-clicking on it. The corresponding installation should start in a few seconds. Read the instructions and follow them. The first screen may give a security warning about an unknown publisher. If you give permission to the installer executable to run by clicking "Run", the installation will proceed.

Note: for windows users, auto-upgrade from 1.8.6 may encounter a UAC issue or a failure of drag-n-drop file to GeoDa feature. To solve this problem, one needs to uninstall GeoDa first (also please manually delete the directory "c:\program files\GeoDa Software") and then download and install GeoDa.

im running windows vista premium 32bit (FULLY UPDATED) on an NF4 motherboard with the latest DX10 redist (the ones that are released bi-monthly) and i believe my current video driver is 179.13 from laptop2go.

i dont understand exactly why the gpu can compress some types of information like video files better then it can compress just ordinary data compression like winrar, winzip or 7zip but it sounds from what i read in this thread is that its just not good for this type of gpu work.

So, isnt there a smart way to handle the problem? The real problem (show hidden files set to true. .svn folders are not compressed because windows does not consider them as valid folders) is still un-answered.

Thanks for your reply. I have successfully removed any versions that support Msi package using WMI but for winzip8 the command uninstallx only unregisters winzip and leaves all folders and startmenu shortcuts in place which have to be removed manually i have hit a dead end now i want to remove the start menu shortcuts from start menu folders of all user's who have ever logged into the pc using a batch which i am failing at right now. If you have worked on something similar can you advise a way to do this ? The id that i am using has adm access on all pc's.

We are assuming most MOPEX users are on a unix-based (unix, linux, mac) machine, which is recommended not just for the tricks and things listed in the other pages (such as Make a simple mosaic), but also for speed and reliability. Several of the items below will help with running MOPEX on windows.

IF YOU RUN INTO PROBLEMS running MOPEX on windows that are not listed here, please check the bugs list for MOPEX and try the solutions listed there. If you have a more ... interesting bug, please mail detailed information (windows version, amount of memory, speed of processor, version of MOPEX, AORKEY you were working on, and detailed error message information) to the SSC helpdesk at he...@spitzer.caltech.edu. You want to give them enough information to reproduce your error exactly. If they can't reproduce it, they can't solve it.

MOPEX in particular needs as input lists of files. I have lots of tricks I use to get file lists, but most of my tricks use tools available for unix-based systems, such as redirects, grep, sed, and awk. To make those tools work on windows systems, you should download and install the Cygwin package ( ). This would give you a UNIX-like terminal window, from which to execute unix commands like

This could indicate a problem with your Band-in-a-Box installation, a problem with windows, or a problem with a driver installed on your computer. If you get the error every time you try to open Band-in-a-Box, you can normally resolve the problem by deleting a file called intrface.bbw from your Band-in-a-Box folder (usually C:\bb). This will return many global Band-in-a-Box settings to their factory defaults. If that doesn't help, perform the following steps until the problem is resolved:

There is a limit to the number of MIDI devices that you can have installed. When you install MIDI devices, windows creates a registry entry, starting with "midi" and up to "midi9". Additional MIDI devices are not recognized by Windows. This can be a problem, since new entries may be created when you reinstall MIDI devices or move a hardware device from one port to another. As well, some MIDI device uninstallers do not remove their registry entries. Even if you have not exceeded the limit, the VSC seems to have trouble if there are duplicate or old MIDI entries in the registry.

You should use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in your taskbar (bottom right side of your computer screen) before physically disconnecting the drive from your computer. Sometimes the icon is in the group of "other icons". If that doesn't work (you get a message saying that it can't be stopped), make sure the drive isn't in use, by closing programs and folder windows. For example, if you are browsing the hard drive contents through Windows Explorer or have the Band-in-a-Box program running, you won't be able to safely eject (If it still doesn't work, you could reboot your computer before disconnecting the drive).

If you are experiencing drop-outs with RealTracks, it could be caused by running an older build of the program under certain conditions. So the first thing you will want to do is download the latest update patch from _windowsupdates.htm.
