confirmation of & in text crashes reportlab

I have a report that runs when using geraldo '0.4-final', but fails as
described in my previous post when run with '0.4.10-stable'. Python
versions on the two installations are the same (2.5.2), but the
working version is on a Linux Etch system and the failing one is on a
Linux Lenny system.
