Just received a positive feedback from a researcher at Stanford, that is always pleasurable to read:

Dear @dev,

This month we plan to release the first alpha of Gephi 0.8: https://launchpad.net/gephi/+milestone/0.8alpha

The goals are quite simple:
- fixing bugs
- integrating the branch Dynamic Statistics
- updating the import/export of GEXF for 1.2 version
- Spanish and French translations
- release of the plug-ins made during the last GSoC

It will be our base code for the whole year, so it is important to start early.

The dynamic statistics branch needs improvements - Cezary and I will work jointly on it. But I argue for integrating now because its development is closely related to the dynamic network data-structure. As both still need fixes, it is really more convenient to work on a single branch. However I let Mathieu decide in the end: he is the wise man.

Gephi supports only GEXF 1.1, and really needs the support of the latest version.

Some bugs are really annoying, here are the top targeted:
- Options of Selection tools are hidden by the OpenGL window. We should move them at the top of the window, like any other tool options. https://bugs.launchpad.net/gephi/+bug/660459
- Statistics and Filters fail to work on hierarchies. This is partially fixed, Mathieu I will recall you to code one missing method in the data structure ;)
- Saving a project uses too much memory for large graphs: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gephi/+bug/672071
- Many settings not saved in project files, like the Label text settings: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gephi/+bug/660205 or column settings in Data Lab: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gephi/+bug/660469

Please pick up one of these bugs, they are critical for the project.

Finally, you GSoC devs are responsible for your own plug-ins. If you haven't already done, please ship them!

Best,
Seb

Hi,

I need to update the API changes about Data Laboratory and how it is used now in visualization context menu too.
A "How To add Data Laboratory actions as plugins" would be nice from me to do, I completely forgot to do this :P

Also I think a few text resources still need to be merged from 0.8 translations intro trunk, and trunk .mo files updated.

Eduardo

I filled the bugfix list.

Please complete it as soon as you fix a new bug, or we will forget it.

Hi devs,

I created a wiki page about this release, on the model of previous ones:
http://wiki.gephi.org/index.php/Development_-_0.8alpha

I tried to fill it with the different developments since the 0.7beta release. Please go through your commits since October 10 and list new features that I didn't pin. It's a nice feeling to see all the great things being done :-)

Though many of these changed have been already deployed through AutoUpdate, they need to be part of the next release history. Note this is the same for bugs. On Launchpad, bugs listed as 'Fix Commited' are those to be included in the release history. Once the version released, they are marked as 'Fix Released'. So, basically we list everything done since the previous release.

Rodmap is still open to change, and will depend what we have the time to finish. Update the wiki page as you like Eduardo.

On my side, I need to merge the Dynamic Statistics. I also need to update the 'API Changes' on 'overview.html' to include the latest additions made to GraphAPI and the serialization update done last week. Eduardo, if you changed some things in the DataLaboratory API, please list then there also.

Mathieu

Yestin,

I worked on integrating the Email Spigot into trunk, to include it with the upcoming release. Very exciting to have your module in the trunk!

Here is what I did:
- Put the email code into SpigotPlugin and SpigotPluginUI. We could have kept SpigotEmail, but as we already had empty SpigotPlugin modules...
- Added JavaMailWrapper and JCalendarWrapper modules as librairies
- Changed how the Filter panel adds email addresses, allowing multiple
- Changed how filter emails are used, using regex match instead of equals on email adresses. Allow to do matching like ".*@mycompany\.com"
- Added an 'Import CSV' button to import email filters lists. That will be very useful for analysing only a company email network, exporting the list from the directory!
- Minor UI updates on the Wizard, as it was not good looking on Mac
- Minor typos
- Renamed package "org.gephi.io.spigot.plugin.email.api" in "org.gephi.io.spigot.plugin.email.spi"

Let me know what you think about these changes

Mathieu
