Dear Colleagues,
I’d like to call your attention to three Postdoctoral Fellowship positions at William & Mary’s Global Research Institute (GRI). These are all 2-year positions. Each of these positions can be renewed or converted to other roles at W&M depending on performance and availability of external grant resources.
I’m contacting you because I think you may have current Ph.D. students or recent graduates who might be interested in one or more of these positions. Details on each of the fellowships and how to apply can be found at the links below under each short description. I’d appreciate your help in disseminating these ads to folks in your networks.
Fellowship in the Theory and Practice of International Relations (TRIP): The position is open regarding subfield and can accommodate multiple issue areas in IR and foreign policy, but the successful candidate must possess training and/or experience in survey research and/or data analysis. In addition to pursuing his/her own research, the Post-Doctoral fellow will collaborate on the TRIP (Teaching, Research, and International Policy) project’s current research, which focuses on the use (and misuse) of social science in the policy world, the conditions under which teaching and research shape policy outcomes, and the changing nature of IR as an academic field. The successful candidate will be able to collaborate with TRIP researchers and at least one other research lab at GRI. This position is designed to strengthen GRI’s research capacity in the areas of survey research or analysis and publication using existing datasets, increase the diversity of our scholarly community, provide a mentored learning experience to the Post-Doctoral fellow, and support and provide additional research opportunities for undergraduate students. S/he will teach one course and direct a team of undergraduate researchers for each year of the award. Throughout this period, s/he will receive mentoring from faculty members and/or senior researchers affiliated with the GRI in a variety of areas including how to pursue funded research in a university setting, how to organize an undergraduate research lab with an explicit commitment to including students from underrepresented groups, and how to improve his/her classroom teaching. To apply for this position, see here: https://jobs.wm.edu/hr/postings/45797
Fellowship in Security and Foreign Policy: The Post-Doctoral Fellow will have the opportunity to work with GRI’s research labs and the GRI Security and Foreign Policy Initiative. In addition to pursuing their own research, the Fellow in Security and Foreign Policy will help to conceive and support a fall and spring convening that will engage both academics and policy practitioners on issues related to his/her own research interests. The Fellow will teach one course per year during the two years of the award. The Fellow will work alongside other Post-Doctoral fellows at GRI and participate in a professional development series that will include: how to pursue funded research; how to organize an undergraduate research lab; how to navigate the publishing process; how to make research accessible to practitioners; and how to improve classroom teaching, among other topics. For details on GRI’s approach to research and education, see here: GRI Approach. To apply for this position see instructions here: https://jobs.wm.edu/hr/postings/45794
Fellowship in Urbanization and Development in Sub-Saharan Africa: The Post-Doctoral Fellow will have time to pursue his/her own work and will support a new project at GRI’s Africa Research Center which will focus on the rapid urbanization of African countries and their ability to create employment opportunities in the formal sector. Such economic opportunities have a significant impact on the region’s peace, stability, and prosperity. Additionally, for each year of the award, s/he will teach one course and direct a team of undergraduate researchers. The Fellow will receive mentorship on his/her ongoing research, teaching, how to run a lab and pursue funded research, and will collaborate with Professor Phil Roessler and Admasu Shiferaw on the new project.
