Colleagues,
Two things learned from Zoom today
1) The quite good: Cloud recording works (local computer recording, not so much) Here is a screenshot of the cloud recording – I am not sending the link since it would violate FERPA if you read names in Chat. But the video recorded 1 hr 20 min fine and I got the link and now its available for asynchronous use. It contains audio / video / screenshare / and automatically-generated transcript of my lecture which is impressive (pure voice-recognition software – great for hearing-impaired students).
2)
The not good at all: Attendance and Polling do not work at all unless your University has good arrangements with Zoom to
ensure that all students usernames and emails are filled in with University-consistent unique identifiers. Many students in attendance do not have an email address and have their own name // many in Polls are entered as Guest with no email address at all.
WORKAROUND – do participation-tracking activities outside of Zoom (e.g., quiz / survey on Canvas).
Hope its helpful.
