A final friendly reminder that you are invited to join the Earth System Governance Project for its webinar on ‘Earth System Law as a legal paradigm for the Anthropocene’, taking place today at 16.00-17:30 (UTC+1 – in three hours) as part of the ESG Speaker Series.

In this webinar, Earth System Law is introduced and proposed as a new legal paradigm, with invited reflections on the normative, transformative and analytical dimensions of the concept.

A four-year Ph.D. position is available in the Department of Global Studies at Queen’s University starting September 2021. The Ph.D. student will work with an interdisciplinary, international team of social and biophysical scientists on a project examining biosafety regulatory requirements and public acceptance of gene-editing technology in legume production in Canada and Brazil. The student will carry out qualitative interviews and deliberative workshops with different stakeholders in the agricultural sector, peer-reviewed publications and presentations at professional meetings. The student will pursue a degree in Global Development Studies (https://www.queensu.ca/devs/graduate-program/phd-program). Research and professional conference travel support are also included as part of the position.
 
Required Qualifications
•           Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada (essential)
•           Earned MS in Development Studies, Sociology, Science and Technology Studies, Geography, Anthropology of food, or Communication Science, with expertise in one or more areas: agriculture, food systems, agrifood governance, biotechnology, and participatory technology development.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with social studies of science, philosophy of science, technology, and development.
  • Demonstrated qualitative analytical skills, including using NVivo
  • Demonstrated record of working in multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience conducting focus groups, qualitative interviews, and stakeholder workshops
