Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to offer funding to one PhD student in International Relations/Political Science at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva, to support a 4-year project I am starting next year on power, networks, and institutional complexes.

I am looking for a candidate with strong analytic skills and research interests in international institutions, familiarity with institutional, power, and/or network analytic theories and methods, and some experience working with datasets and R. The candidate’s main project-related responsibilities will be to help extend, refine and update data on international institutions in different policy domains, including the environment. If they wish, the candidate may also use the data in their dissertation and help develop statistical network models for analyzing the data, including dynamic network actor models (DyNAMs).

External candidates should note that they must first apply and be accepted to our doctoral programme with their own research proposal. More information about the PhD in International Relations/Political Science at the Graduate Institute and how to apply can be found here: https://graduateinstitute.ch/academic-departments/international-relations-political-science/our-programmes.

Switzerland is a great place to live, study, and work. The Graduate Institute is diverse and dynamic, and there are a wealth of opportunities in Geneva for both academic- and policy-oriented experience and extension. The candidate will also liaise with the project’s broader inter/national and inter/disciplinary network of partners and advisors, and there is a budget to attend conferences, workshops, and research meetings.

Please share this call with any suitable and potentially interested candidates. The deadline for external applications is the 15 January 2020, with the position offered to the first best fit.

Many thanks, and happy holidays,
James Hollway
