Call for proposals ECPR Joint Sessions workshop: “Governance Innovations for Accelerated and Equitable Climate and Energy Transitions in Cities”

We are pleased to announce a call for papers to a workshop on “Governance Innovations for Accelerated and Equitable Climate and Energy Transitions in Cities” as part of the ECPR Joint Sessions.
The aim of this workshop is to explore what (innovative) forms of governance different cities implement to overcome existing constraints toward accelerating climate and energy transitions. How can cities move away from the traditional approach to governance, characterized by sectoral division and institutional silos, and the potential adverse implications of climate and energy transitions, towards an approach that ensures that no one is left behind?
If you are working on topics such as governance innovations or urban politics, experimentation, and scaling in cities, we believe this would be a fantastic opportunity to connect with other scholars in the field. Workshop date: 25-28 March 2024.
Location: Leuphana University, Lüneburg, Germany (this workshop is only in-person format)
Deadline for proposals submission: 23 November 2023
Once your abstract is accepted, we expect a submission of a full paper 2 weeks before the workshop in March. The workshop follows a format of in-depth paper discussions, with several participants
assigned to comment on each paper. We expect to have 15-20 papers in total discussed over the four days and aim to have a diverse representation of themes within the scope of the workshop as well as a balance between experienced and early-career scholars.

2: Comparative and single case studies of climate city contracts: effectiveness and impacts
3: Interactions across governance levels and role of cities in transnational energy and climate networks
4: Cities’ capacity to implement climate and sustainable energy policies
5: Critical perspectives on governance of transitions: politics, challenges, questions of equity and justice
