My department at the University of Rhode Island is hiring a Marine Research Associate. The job requires a graduate degree (MA or PhD) in Environmental Studies, Marine Affairs, Communications, Public Policy or related social sciences field. Under the supervision of Principal Investigator (Prof. Austin Becker) in Marine Affairs in the College of the Environment and Life Sciences (CELS), and in collaboration with students, Coastal Resources Center, the Environmental Data Center, and other research associates, support research, outreach, and operations in a variety of projects as part of the Marine Affairs Coastal Resilience Lab (MACRL). Assist MACRL students and research associates in contributing to untangling complex natural hazards problems and the resulting challenges in policy and planning. MACRL receives funding support from the US Army Corps of Engineers, the Dept. of Defense, the National Science Foundation, and the Dept. of Homeland Security through the Center of Excellence in Coastal Resilience. Act as a resource in projects such as the Rhode Island Coastal Hazards Analysis Modeling and Prediction system (
www.RICHAMP.org) which conduct applied research using social science methods in close partnership with end users such as the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency.
