The Ocean Infrastructure Research Group led by Prof Christian Bueger and Prof Kimberley Peters is hiring a two year post doc (start date: January 2023).
The research group is based in the Department of Political Science at the University of Copenhagen and in partnership with the Helmholtz Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity, funded by a Velux Foundation grant. It investigates how infrastructures governs the oceans. We are particularly looking for a researcher to work on the infrastructures that govern environmental damage by the shipping industry (e.g., accidents, oil spills, container loss). This could include empirical research on marine safety institutions (e.g., European Maritime Safety Agency), vulnerable states and regions (e.g. Mauritius) or the shipping industry. The researcher will also contribute to jointly developing the concept and theory of global infrastructures.
We are looking for a candidate with completed PhD that is passionate about the oceans, interested in contemporary theorizing, with empirical skills and experience in translating knowledge to non-academic audiences. The position will require flexibility to travel including to overseas locations (e.g. Azores, Maldives, Mauritius).
