Dear colleagues,

While these notices of member publications are sometimes a little self-serving (and this one is no exception), I think I am also introducing here a public good.  After teaching “climate change science and politics” several years, Steve MacAvoy (hydrologist and professor of environmental science) and I (professor of political science) decided to write an interdisciplinary text.  It is out and with updates to address the Biden administration and COVID.  It has sections on the political, economic and social challenges presented by climate change, as well as considering scientific and technical issues.  Most importantly it tries to be constructive and optimistic and yet realistic about the urgency of circumstances (we walked a tight and conscious line throughout).  The book as didactic case studies at the conclusion of each chapter, and we are compiling some teaching materials to post on an Oxford course website in the fall.

The link to it is here:

Please consider this timely and wide-ranging text.  We are very proud of it and think it will help you give students a multi-dimensional perspective on climate change and how to ameliorate its effects.  If you have any questions about the text please let me know at eise...@american.edu.  I am traveling until early July but will try to respond as I am able.  The book ships on July 8.

Thanks and best regards,

Todd Eisenstadt
