The Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU), with the African Climate Platform, Natural Justice, Resilient40, and the Environmental Lawyers Collective for Africa,
filed a petition before the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights requesting an Advisory Opinion on the human rights obligations of African states in the context of climate change.
The period for submitting Amicus briefs
has commenced, running for 90 days from 4 September 2025. If you would like to submit an amicus brief to the African Court but are not sure how, the Global Environmental Law Centre, in partnerships with Natural Justice, Southampton Law School and Environmental
Lawyers Collective for Africa, is hosting a how-to webinar on 9 October at
12noon SAST.
Expert lawyers will explain the process of submitting an amicus brief and will share their experiences and strategies. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the petition.
Read more about the webinar in the flyer attached and register to join
here.
All the best,
Dina
