Subject: [SCORAI] Invitation to Join the Energy and Social Science Network (EASSN)
Dear all,
Profuse apologies in advance for any cross posting.
Given the importance of contemporary energy and climate issues, and the need for interdisciplinary research on such topics, we thought it an opportune time to create a new group of scholars, analysts, practitioners, students, and other stakeholders organized around the themes of “energy studies,” “energy research,” “society,” and “social science.” We are calling this the “Energy and Social Science Network,” or EASSN. The EASSN offers a platform to discuss how social and technical issues related to both energy production and consumption interact. It is open to people from any discipline, country, region, or level of experience, and also not limited to any particular technology, sector, or topic.
The formation of the EASSN builds on the recent conclusion of the First Annual “Energy for Society” Conference in Spain as well as the continued success of the journal Energy Research & Social Science, although it will operate independently of these two entities. Ideally the Network will discuss the following, among other items:
1. Fellowships and job opportunities
2. Calls for papers and special issues
3. Funding and grant opportunities
4. New publications
5. Upcoming seminars and conferences
6. Contemporary energy and climate news items
We want the group to be inclusive and open, so please do forward to any and all who may be interested. Those wishing to join the mailing list need to merely follow the instructions below. We may indeed start doing newsletters in the future, alongside a more formal webpage, but not yet. Let’s see how it goes.
With very best wishes,

Energy and Social Science Network (EASSN) Mailing List
The list homepage is available at www.jiscmail.ac.uk/EASSN and the email address is EA...@JISCMAIL.AC.UK.
The Energy and Social Science Network (EASSN) provides an interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of how social and technical issues related to both energy production and consumption interact. Energy production, distribution, and consumption all have both technical and human components, and the latter involve the human causes and consequences of energy-related activities and processes as well as social structures that shape how people interact with energy systems. The Network is to support those who hold that energy analysis therefore needs to look beyond the dimensions of technology and economics to include these social and human elements.
