Dear all,

In the context of the new Danish government’s 70 per cent reduction target for 2030, I am looking for an overview of national reduction targets for 2030 (and ideally also for other years). Climate Action Tracker is great, but does not include national targets for EU member states. The targets may be adopted as legislation, or just be official government positions.

Best regards,

Jakob Skovgaard

Dear Jakob, dear all,

Our climate legislation team her at the LSE’s Grantham Research Institute has done an extensive trawl of national emissions targets and has added the data to our Climate Change Laws of the World database. We are currently going through a major revamp of the database, so once the new website is up and running it will be easier to get access to all such national targets (and lots more), but for now you can access them country by country via the map on this website: http://www.lse.ac.uk/GranthamInstitute/countries. Just click on a country, then click on “go to full profile”, and then choose the third tab “climate targets”. The CCLW database contains, of course, lots of other valuable information, including links to each country’s NDC, litigation, and contextual information.

We have provided the targets data also for ClimateWatch’s own database, which you can find here: https://www.climatewatchdata.org

Best wishes,
Robert

Jakob and all,

The situation in the US is actually a bit like the EU member states: the overall situation is totally non-descriptive of the sub-units. That is, two sets of states have bifurcated sharply and some now have pretty agressive 2030 target, while others have nothing. I know you're looking at national level targets, but something to mention somewhere perhaps.

Best to all,
Timmons

Dear all,

A very big thank you to Fari Zelli, Robert Falkner, Sebastian Oberthür and Timmons Robert for their quick and useful suggestions. I've had a look at them, and when it comes to exploring the targets of EU member states as well as non-EU states, I found the Grantham Institute's Climate Change Laws of the World Database (http://www.lse.ac.uk/GranthamInstitute/countries/) and WRI's ClimateWatch  (https://www.climatewatchdata.org) most useful, the latter using the former's data.

Other useful databases and collections of information include

DIE and SEI's NDC explorer, containing data from INDCs and NDCs
https://klimalog.die-gdi.de/ndc/#NDCExplorer/worldMap?INDC??income???catIncome

Climate Analytics, the New Climate Institute and EcoFys' Climate Action Tracker, also based on (I)NDC data
https://climateactiontracker.org/

The European Commission's overview of the Member States' National Energy and Climate Plans contributing to the EU's 2030 target:
https://ec.europa.eu/energy/en/topics/energy-strategy-and-energy-union/governance-energy-union/national-energy-climate-plans

I hope others will find this useful too.

Best regards,

Jakob
