I acknowledge and honor the Ojibwe, Potawatomi, and Odawa, as well as the Menominee, Miami and Ho-Chunk nations, upon whose traditional homelands Northwestern University stands, and the Indigenous people who remain on this land today.

10+ years of UN-REDD expertise and best practices now available in a 9-brief series

A recent study, published in Nature, cautioned that deforestation and climate change, via increasing dry-season length and drought frequency, may have pushed the Amazon already close to a critical threshold of rainforest dieback, potentially triggering catastrophic runaway climate change.

But the 2022 “State of the World’s Forests” report, put out at the XV World Forestry Congress, also recognized that in the last decade overall deforestation rates globally have decreased and that the fight to protect our forests, the single largest nature-based solution and source of multiple benefits, can still be won - if we double down and radically scale up REDD+.

To further capacitate the REDD+ community, the UN-REDD Programme has synthesized its lessons learned, good practice and key recommendations from over 10 years working with partner countries and IPLCs into nine flagship briefs.

Happy reading!
