****** ISA 2024 Deadline: June 1 ******
Hi everyone,
Just a friendly reminder that the deadline for submission to ISA 2024 is coming up soon – June 1st ! As Section Program Chair of ESS, I want to encourage you to get paper and panel proposals
ready, as that’s less than a month away. As noted, the theme for ISA 2024 is Putting Relationality at the Centre
of International Studies (link). Two things I would like to mention:
- for
a variety of reasons, there was a pretty high number of cancellations
from presenters, discussants, and panels in ISA 2023. To that end, to
the extent possible,
please try to check in with potential panel members during the proposal
process. It is of course difficult to project what issues could arise
by the time of the conference next year, but if visa issues (as an
example) are likely to arise, it would be helpful
to start thinking about them as early as possible.
- The
theme for ISA 2024 strongly encourages very broad ways of thinking
about international/global environmental issues. As mentioned in the
call: “Indigenous,
Decolonial, Black, Intersectional, Abolitionist, Queer and Marxist
Feminist lineages of thought on, and as, relationality offer a
fundamental onto-epistemological challenge to a discipline that has at
times focused narrowly on actors in a vacuum, and been
bound by hetero-patriarchal frameworks of modern/colonial state
governance and law.” To that end, I would also like to strongly
encourage considering co-sponsorship of panels across different
sections: Global South, Global IR, Feminist Theory and Gender
Studies, IPE, and so on. For environmental studies scholars, this
is a great way to encourage cross-sectional dialogue in very productive
ways.
Thank you all, and am looking forward to seeing (some of) you in San Francisco next year!
