Teaching biodiversity politics - A different beast

In recent years a number of folks have inquired about readings that can introduce students to the politics of biodiversity conservation.  In this vein, I am pleased to announce the publication of  "A Different Beast: What Climate Actors Need to Know About Biodiversity Politics," in the journal Nature-Based Solutions.  

Here you'll find what biodiversity is, where the concept came from, how it differs from traditional conservation agendas, and (most centrally) some of the distinctive attributes of biodiversity conservation as a political challenge.  It could pair well with a second reading emphasizing the social justice dimensions of the issue more explicitly.  

Political science has largely ignored biodiversity (see the figure below, from the article).  My hope is that this is but one of many analysis emerging from our wonderful community in the coming years.
