Hi all,

Some of you may be interested in the new LSE Global Sustainability book series, which is published by LSE Press, a non-profit, open access publisher of the social sciences. The book series is aimed at both an academic and general readership, and books with a policy dimension or focus on impact are particularly welcome.

Below is the announcement with further details and links. Please note that I’m not involved in commissioning books for this series, so please send any queries directly to the commissioning editor, Jen McCall (details below).

Best wishes,
Robert

Announcing a new book series from LSE Press

LSE Global Sustainability

Published in Alliance with the Global School of Sustainability at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)

Series editor:

Jonathan Pershing, Dean of the Global School of Sustainability and Professor in Practice

This new, fully Open Access book series reflects the commitment of the Global School of Sustainability at LSE to shape a brighter future for all that is sustainable, resilient, hopeful, prosperous and inclusive. All books in the series are intended to reach far beyond the scholarly world, to provide insight on or for policy, and to drive true, real-world impact. Achieving a sustainable future requires a collaborative approach. An avowedly interdisciplinary series, we welcome proposals drawn from all disciplines in the social sciences including economics, anthropology, sociology, geography, law, development studies, environmental studies, business and management, and political science.

The series is built around the five core themes of the Global School of Sustainability at the LSE, namely:

  • Generating sustainable growth
  • Creating sustainable finance and business
  • Mobilising political, legal and governance systems
  • Protecting and enhancing nature and biodiversity
  • Building sustainable societies

Books in the series may address questions such as (but not limited to):

  • How can the private sector be incentivised to help finance the transition to net zero emissions?
  • What regulatory instruments are effective to shift corporate behaviour?
  • How can we respond to the green backlash?
  • How can we ensure that development decisions do not unnecessarily deplete and degrade nature, and that nature-positive outcomes support economy and society?
  • How can societies transform to be economically, physically, and socially resilient and sustainable?
  • How can growth can be achieved in the face of climate change and without generating further externalities?

Publishing formats

Publications will include single/co-authored monographs, edited collections, textbooks and shortform works (i.e., books between 40-60,000 words).

Open Access/Open Research

All books will publish open access under a diamond model, (with no costs to either author or reader). This removes barriers to open access publication and helps promote an equitable knowledge production ecosystem.
