Dear colleagues,

Hope this message finds you well in these turbulent times.

In connection with a panel at ISA in Montreal, Hamish van der Ven (UBC) and I (Philip Schleifer, UvA) recently had a conversation about scholars doing work on/with ai in the field environmental politics and governance. Between the two of us, we were able to identify a handful of scholars working in this space, but we would like to know who else is out there and who is doing what. We are interested to learn about the full spectrum of use cases, including, but not limited to, the following:

  •  people doing research on the ecological consequences of ai technology and/or the use of ai as tools of environmental governance

  • people using ai-powered methods (e.g., in text analysis) in the field of environmental politics and governance
  • people using ai as a teaching method in the field of environmental politics and governance

At this point, we don’t have a fully formed agenda but would like to take a first step towards network building, e.g., in form of organizing a virtual meet-up event and/or by creating a mailing list for interested scholars.

If you do work on/with ai in the field of environmental political and governance and if you would like to learn about the work that others are doing in this space, please do reach out by sending us a direct message. We will collect responses and, should there be sufficient critical mass, propose further steps.

Warm regards,

Philip & Hamish
