Dear Colleagues,

We are a group of scholars who work on the politics of climate change.   For a long time this was an under-researched field, but that lamentable situation is rapidly changing, as is the political landscape around climate change.  We have come together to try to turbo-charge the field by enlisting the energy and creativity of younger scholars, and to build networks between us and them, and among them.

To initiate this process, we will be hosting a one day virtual conference on October 29th (10AM EST – 5pm EST), the first meeting of an initiative we’re calling the Climate Pipeline Project. We hope that this conference will spotlight work by junior scholars (graduate students, post-docs, and untenured faculty) working on the politics of climate change. Tenured faculty and other senior scholars and administrators are invited to join to get a peek at new and innovative work being planned and carried out by these junior scholars.

We are asking if you would please forward to untenured colleagues working in this space. We have already sent to individuals that we knew about, but leveraging your networks will make this much more effective and inclusive.

Scholarship from any sub-field of political science, including Comparative, IR, American Politics, Political Theory, and combinations thereof, is encouraged.  We also encourage interdisciplinary presentations linking political science with other social sciences, humanities, or other natural sciences studying climate change.

Local restrictions on convening meetings involving visitors necessitate the virtual format.  We seek to make a virtue of necessity, enabling us to involve geographically disparate participants without the need for costly travel. We anticipate hosting in person events soon. The format of the conference will be short presentations (~10 minutes) with discussants and general participation, with slides or papers posted ahead of time. We will facilitate some networking opportunities as well.  This event is supported by Harvard’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs and Brown’s Climate Change Solutions Lab.

To propose a presentation, or to join as a participant, please fill in this form (https://harvard.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_b1VdkIvYNDzcCWO) by July 10th . Questions can be sent to Dustin Tingley, dtin...@g.harvard.edu.

We are excited to launch this initiative and hope for an enthusiastic response.

Please do forward to others that you think might be interested.

Best,

Dustin Tingley, Jeff Colgan, and Robert O. Keohane and our faculty collaborators
