TIIGS has begun screening documentaries on the 2nd Sunday of every
month at Young Creators' Den. Young Creators' Den is a Montessori-
style after-school enrichment centre for kids.

These are provocative, interesting and informative documentaries that
illumine the importance of geography in understanding the world. They
also connect geography with other subjects. The lines dividing
different subjects are artificial.

The program begins with an introduction to the topic in the form of a
question and answer session with participants (prominence is given to
kids). The the screening begins. Every 15 minutes or so, the
projection is paused for a few minutes and participants are engaged in
a discussion to reflect on what they have learned so far. When the
screening ends, there is another discussion for participants to
discuss what they learned from the documentary.

The next screening is tomorrow, 9 October 2011: "How Earth Made Us"
This documentary shows how several human civilizations arose, thrived,
and ended because of a tricky bargain humans struck with Earth's
faults. And it has many! :) Faults are places where the boundaries of
Earth's tectonic plate boundaries meet -- bountiful and deadly places
for humans to live.

If you want to organize monthly screenings with discussion at your
location, contact g...@tiigs.org. If you are a student and would like
to organize screenings at your school, please have your Principal
contact TIIGS at g...@tiigs.org

The whole program lasts about 2 hours. This is best suited for
students in class 8 and above. Parents should be encouraged to join
the kids.
