I had to walk in to get this one, and had to do so through what I knew would be
a tick infested meadow. But since I expected it to be, I prepared for it
beforehand by tucking my pant-legs into the top of my socks and pulling the
socks up as high as they would go.
Fortunately, I was able to drive up Sassman Lane and park in the shade of a
pair of trees immediately opposite the trail that led into the meadow. The
trail sign (which just says "trail") is 135 meters from the zero point. The
trail doesn't seem to get much traffic, because it was mowed grass with no
evidence of a path being worn into the ground underneath it. As I walked in,
the grass and other things growing in the meadow were about waist high, and the
further I went, the higher it got, most of it was shoulder high, with some of
the taller ones over the top of my head. At 50 meters, I didn't think I'd be
able to get that much closer, until I saw that there was a mowed path leading
to the northwest (just like in the Google satellite view). So I walked up it,
and got to 1.7 meters before the distance started rising again. Then I held my
GPS way over the grass to see if I could get a reading below 1 meter. I
didn't, so I took a step into the grass at the edge (which was about waist
high), and got it down to .4 meters.
Then I headed back to the car, stopping outside it to do a tick check. There
were 3 on my right sock, which was the foot that I took my one step into the
grass with, so maybe trying to get it down to zero wasn't such a great idea.
