I drove through the high desert yesterday specifically to grab this Slovakian
banner. It is not very common in my part of the world, so it was worth the
drive of more than two hours to grab it. I did some Munzee and Geocaching along
the way, including an interesting Adventure that dealt with the section of old
Route 66 as it wound between Victorville and San Bernardino. We used to live in
Riverside, just to the south, and we were very familiar with a lot of this
area, so it was interesting to see what had changed, and what had not.
Near the end of my long day, I got to 96 meters while driving north, at 65 MPH
(105 KPH), on I-15, in the far-right-hand lane, which was closest to the flag.
This interstate highway superseded US 66 and US 395 through Cajon Pass. There
unfortunately was no place to pull over, and traffic was heavy, so I could not
take a photo, but the area is a "badlands" sort of topography, with many rock
outcroppings and narrow canyons, with a few dirt roads carved in the landscape.
The Mormon Rocks outcrops are to the west, on the other side of the freeway,
and the San Andreas Fault runs a couple of miles (three-four kilometers) to the
south.
